Cardinals' Rumor Mill

So here's the latest I have found out about the St. Louis Cardinals and their trade rumors: something is going to happen, it's just not sure when and with whom the trade will be made.

It has become clear to everyone not only involved with the Cardinals, but even casual fans, that we are in need of bullpen help. Whether Brian Fuentes, Arthur Rhodes, or George Sherrill is the answer may just depend on what the right price is.

Word out of Colorado is that Fuentes will command a young strong pitcher for the deal to be done. That being said, the Florida Marlins are out of the sweepstakes for Fuentes after refusing to give up their young starter Anabel Sanchez.

The Cardinals, however, could mix in a minor league starter with an outfielder who has played quite well this year, say, Skip Schumaker?

I think Sherrill may command the most of the bunch, but he is also a bonafide All-Star. If he can bring some lefty consistency to our bullpen, let alone consistency at all, I will be happy, so long as we don't give up too much.

Here's my real hope though: we combine Sherrill and Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts into a nice package deal.

I'm thinking those two players for Schumaker, Kyle McClellan, and two minor leaguers.

Man, that sure sounds enticing!
